It's snowing today. It's one of those standard New England winter days when the sky is gray, the trees are gray, and the snow gracefully covers everything.

None of it is sticking, but I suspect it may soon. It's been cold.

I'm reminded of long walks through silent woods when all you can hear is the crunch of snow underfoot and the whispering sound of snow falling on dead leaves.

There's no time and no place that I can go to hear these sounds and experience the quiet of snow in winter. I'm surrounded by sirens and traffic and people. Sometimes that's a comfort, but today, I think I'd rather be in the woods, where the only thing I can hear is my participation with nature, alone in the trees.
